Job Description:

Position Summary

The Blake School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Coach for the Girls Volleyball program. The ideal candidate will foster a positive team culture, support student-athlete development, and represent Blake's core values of integrity, respect, and excellence. The head coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Upper School volleyball program, including team management, practice planning, skill development, game strategy, and program leadership.

Experience and Skills:

  • Lead and Manage Program

    • Oversee all levels of the program (Varsity, JV, and C-squad) with a long-term vision for growth and success

    • Recruit and mentor assistant coaches

    • Coordinate tryouts, roster decisions, and team selections

  • Player Development

    • Foster the athletic, academic, and personal development of student-athletes

    • Design and implement structured, progressive practices

    • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership among players

  • Game Management

    • Plan and execute game strategies and lineups

    • Collaborate with athletic department on game scheduling and transportation

    • Review game film to assess team and individual performance

  • Communication

    • Maintain regular communication with players, families, and athletic department

    • Clearly articulate expectations, schedules, and team policies

    • Uphold and model Blake’s values and community standards

  • Administrative Duties

    • Manage program budget, equipment, and uniforms

    • Ensure compliance with all MSHSL rules and Blake School policies

Attend preseason meetings, postseason evaluations, and professional development opportunities

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a head or assistant volleyball coach at the high school or collegiate level

  • Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and skill development

  • Passion for education-based athletics and student-centered coaching

  • Demonstrated ability to lead with integrity, enthusiasm, and professionalism

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • CPR/First Aid certification and MSHSL coaching requirements (or ability to complete upon hiring)

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Program Overview

Blake competes in the Independent Metro Athletic Conference (IMAC) and is a member of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The volleyball program has a tradition of academic and athletic excellence and is supported by dedicated student-athletes, families, and faculty.
