Job Description:

The Blake School seeks to hire a Lower School Teaching Assistant at the Blake or Highcroft Campus for the 2017-18 school year. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. 

The search committee will begin reviewing applications on June 26.

Qualifications:

  • Respect for children and their potential
  • B.A. Degree
  • Experience with children ages 4 - 11
  • Ability to work with children, parents and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Collaborative working style
  • Ability to support two classroom teachers and two classes of students
  • Knowledge of children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical developmental stages
  • Creative, joyful approach to learning and teaching
  • Active listener who honors children’s thoughts, feelings, and ideas
  • Constructivist educational philosophy with expertise in process-oriented learning and teaching
  • Ability to effectively monitor and adjust ever-changing priorities in order to meet students’ needs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents
  • Desire to work in a PK-12 dynamic learning community

 

 

Experience and Skills:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience with high-potential students
  • Interest in and ability to use the outdoors as a rich teaching environment
  • Experience with proficiency model of Spanish language instruction
  • Confidence with technology, such as the Google suite of apps, up-to-date computer software knowledge and digital video and audio editing

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and implementing a progressive, often emergent, curriculum designed for high-potential students in collaboration with a four-member team
  • Monitor and evaluate the interrelationship between children’s learning and the curriculum with lead teachers
  • Emphasize the collaborative, creative process of a group experience while also recognizing and supporting individuals’ growth and performance
  • Provide differentiated instruction to match students’ needs
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with members of the team
  • Substitute during lead teacher’s absence
  • Hang student work on bulletin boards and post on website
  • Perform day-to-day duties that support the ongoing classroom operations
  • Participate in professional development opportunities sponsored by The Blake School
