Job Description:

Position Overview:

 

Working supervisor with overall responsibility for the physical operation, maintenance, and cleaning of the ice arena & equipment. Help supervise all part-time staff. Oversee Ice Arena operation in absence of Ice Arena Manager.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate, monitor and maintain records of the activities of various groups using the Ice Arena

 

  • Perform building and property inspections. Maintain safe and secure setting for students, staff and guests. Report any concerns or violations to immediate supervisor.

 

  • Provide exceptional customer service daily to internal and extermal customers

 

  • Perform resurfacing of ice surface on scheduled times. Responsible for the ice condition.

 

  • Submit purchase requisitions for supplies and materials; coordinate and maintain adequate inventory of tools, equipment, hardware and materials.

 

  • Follow appropriate safety procedures when completing work assignments in accordance with OSHA and other relevant safety guidelines.

 

  • Perform and/or supervise housekeeping to maintain Ice Arena appearance and cleanliness

 

  • Follow opening/closing procedures and secure Ice Arena as necessary

 

  • Coordinate access to spaces for student athletes/coaches, vendors, Blake staff/faculity and guests.

 

  • Receive and deliver equipment and supplies as required. May be called upon to discuss and participate in installations, repairs, new construction and other routine and event-related projects.

 

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and carpentry including but not limited to resilient and hard surface flooring; repair/replace doors and windows; cabinetry, lock and hardware repair; suspended ceilings and insulation, painting and other surface treatments. Maintain basic knowledge or plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems as it relates to general maintenance and upkeep of the buildings.

 

  • Other related duties as assigned by the Ice Arena Manager. The listing of the position duties/responsibilities is not necessarily inclusive for this position. Omission of specific duties does not preclude assignment of other duties if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Required:

  • Must be able to work a flexible, varied schedule throughout the year

  • Availability for scheduled and on-call evenings and weekends

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Valid MN Driver’s License/ must pass DMV background check

  • Experience performing general cleaning and maintenance

  • High School graduate or equivalent

 

Preferred:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Experience in an Ice Arena, preferability Ice Arena Operations

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must possess normal vision, hearing and good physical dexterity

  • Will be required to do own laboring (including lift up to 50 pounds safely)

  • Capable of transporting equipment, including carts which may carry up to 400 pounds

  • Operate Ice Refinishing Equipment (motorized ice resurfacer & powered edger)

  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds and roofs

 

Working Conditions:

  • May be subject to being on-call

  • Required to carry a cell phone or two-way device

  • May experience schedule changes based on the needs of the Ice Arena

  • Work long hours to complete/perform scheduled or emergency functions and events

  • Required to work under adverse weather conditions and varying temperatures (indoor/outdoor)

 

Team Participation:

  • Participate as a contributing member of the Buildings & Grounds and Ice Arena Teams

  • As appropriate, give input for ways to improve procedures and policies currently in use to ensure business is conducted in a safe, responsible manner.

  • Willing to assist in other areas of facility & grounds operations and with other tasks not defined in position description.
