Job Description:

The Blake School seeks to hire a bright and engaging Middle School (grades 6-8) Health and Wellness/Physical Education teacher. This individual would join our outstanding and increasingly diverse faculty for the 2018-2019 school year. The successful candidate will have a degree in wellness education, health education, and/or physical education, experience teaching these courses at the middle school level, be knowledgeable about and committed to best practice pedagogy, and energized by designing curriculum and working with middle school students. This position is a 0.7 (70%) FTE, meaning a part-time role. This position includes benefits.

Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes our community strong and empowers students to engage productively with those who are different from them.

This faculty member will teach Physical Education courses in the 2018-2019 school year. Teaching assignments in future years will likely include a combination of Health and Wellness courses, and some sections of Physical Education. Regardless of teaching assignment, duties include classroom instruction, conferencing with students, parents, and colleagues, active participation in the work of the department on effective teaching and curriculum development, participating in department, division, all-school initiatives and coaching at least one season. (Coaching obligations include an additional stipend.) Blake’s Middle School Health and Wellness Curriculum examines the intersection between lifetime fitness, physical activity, and social, emotional and mental health. Physical Education includes cognitive concepts about motor skills and fitness, implementing corrective measures necessary for skill improvement, providing differentiated instruction for various ability groupings, and explaining and enforcing safety rules.

The search committee will begin reviewing resumes immediately. Blake will typically cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
