Job Description:

The Blake School seeks an energetic, intelligent and organized Middle School educator with strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence to serve as its next Assistant Director.  The Assistant Director must work joyfully and effectively with a full range of students in addition to managing the complex systems that support a positive school climate. The ideal candidate displays a strong work ethic and a lively sense of humor, has a broad understanding of Middle School curriculum and philosophy, and brings substantial Middle School teaching experience. Candidates should demonstrate a professional commitment to pluralism and to developing their own intercultural competence. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications November 5. Blake will typically cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.


Experience and Skills:

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Being actively involved in the daily lives of students through oversight of their academic progress, informal interactions in the halls, leadership of an advisory, and attendance at MS events both within and beyond the school day;
  • Working closely with and in support of the Middle School Director; 
  • Modeling and fostering a safe and respectful school community and coordinating responses to student behavior and discipline issues, as appropriate;
  • Developing and overseeing student schedules and the Middle School master calendar;
  • Coaching and evaluating faculty in their teaching practice;
  • Coordinating faculty chaperoning and supervisory duties;
  • Meeting weekly with the Middle School Student Support Team;
  • Counseling parents, students and faculty, as appropriate, to support student needs;
  • Serving on PK-12 or MS committees as requested by the Head of School or Middle School Director;
  • Teaching one section, if necessary;
  • Additional duties as may be arranged between the Director and the Assistant Director.
