Job Description:

The Blake School seeks a Pre-Kindergarten Music Teacher on Blake's Hopkins campus to provide 60-90 minutes of instruction per week. The teacher will provide creative whole class and small group music instruction once per week for two classes of Pre-K students. The music teacher will collaborate with the classroom teachers and teaching assistants to connect musical experiences to students’ classroom study as appropriate. Previous experience teaching music to elementary-age students is required with preference given to those who have experience with students ages 4-6. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

Experience and Skills:

The Lower School Pre-K Music Teacher works in collaboration with faculty and administrators to implement weekly creative general music experiences for students ages 4-6.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements a creative general music curriculum for Pre-K students
  • Provides whole class and small group instruction once per week 
  • Connects musical experiences to students’ classroom study as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Respect for children and their potential
  • B.A. Degree in music education or music (or equivalent)
  • Successful music teaching experience with children ages 4-6
  • Creative, joyful approach to learning and teaching; a playful nature
  • Ability to work with children, parents and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, abilities, interests and experiences
  • Flexible, collaborative working style; a team player
  • Ability to find humor in everyday experiences
  • Strong organizational skills; resourceful
  • Knowledge of children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical developmental stages
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Constructivist educational philosophy with expertise in process-oriented learning and teaching
  • Proven ability to effectively monitor and adjust ever-changing priorities in order to meet students’ needs
  • Expanding technological skills, such as up-to-date knowledge of computer software
