Job Description:

The Blake School seeks to hire Lower School Teaching Assistants for the 2021-22 school year. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes our community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

Experience and Skills:

  • 4 Year Degree
  • Experience with children ages 4 - 11
  • Ability to work with children, parents and colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences

  • Ability to support two classroom teachers and two classes of students
  • Knowledge of children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical developmental stages
  • Creative, joyful approach to learning and teaching
  • Active listener who honors children’s thoughts, feelings, and ideas
  • Constructivist educational philosophy with expertise in process-oriented learning and teaching
  • Ability to effectively monitor and adjust ever-changing priorities in order to meet students’ needs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents
  • Desire to work in a PK-12 dynamic learning community

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience with high-potential students
  • Interest in and ability to use the outdoors as a rich teaching environment
  • Experience with proficiency model of Spanish language instruction
  • Confidence with technology, including Google Suite and digital video and audio editing




  • Assist in developing and implementing a progressive, often emergent, curriculum designed for high-potential students in collaboration with a four-member team
  • Monitor and evaluate the interrelationship between children’s learning and the curriculum with lead teachers
  • Emphasize the collaborative, creative process of a group experience while also recognizing and supporting individuals’ growth and performance
  • Provide differentiated instruction to match students’ needs
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with members of the team
  • Substitute during lead teacher’s absence
  • Hang student work on bulletin boards and post on website
  • Perform day-to-day duties that support the ongoing classroom operations
  • Participate in professional development opportunities sponsored by The Blake School
