Job Description:

The Blake School seeks a dynamic, creative and reflective Middle School Social Studies Teacher who is eager to help students investigate both United States histories and global developments. The department guides student inquiry in tracing contemporary issues back through time by asking the question “How did we get here?” The teacher will work with a collaborative 6th-8th Social Studies team to design an inquiry-based curriculum. The social studies team draws from best practices in project-based learning, historical thinking skills and media literacy to develop foundational skills in reading, research, conversation and writing. We are eager to meet candidates who have experience working with adolescents to foster a community committed to pluralism, curiosity and empathy.

This is a 1.0 FTE position beginning in fall 2022.

Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. Blake provides substantial resources for professional learning in areas including adolescent development, learning differences and intercultural competence. We welcome candidates who have non-traditional experience as educators.

The committee will begin the review of applications on Dec. 15 and welcomes additional applications until Jan. 15. Blake will cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.

Experience and Skills:

The Blake School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12, co-educational, nonsectarian, independent day school enrolling 1,366 bright, talented students from nearly 56 Twin Cities-area communities. Founded in 1900, The Blake School has the advantage of three campuses (Minneapolis, Hopkins and Wayzata) each with its own facilities designed for specific ages, schedules and activities. The mission of the school is to provide students with an excellent, academically challenging education in a diverse and supportive community committed to a common set of values.

The Blake School believes that a diverse society enriches all individuals and communities. Diversity of race, ethnicity, national origin, geography, religion, gender, affectional or sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and marital, parental or economic status forms the fabric of our society. As a result of these beliefs, The Blake School actively seeks students, families and employees who value and contribute to the fullness of a diverse community within the context of its mission. In doing so, we recognize our responsibility to help make each person's experience a success. EOE
