Job Description:

Position Overview: 

The Child Care Substitute Teacher provides on-call care and learning services to children ages 3 months to 4 years. Work hours are anytime between 8 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. No work during Blake School winter or spring breaks. Summer program hours may be available. Licensing requires CPR and First Aid Training and online (one hour each) SUIDS and AHT training prior to working at the Child Care.  If a Substitute Teacher works more than 500 hours during the year, additional educational training will be required. All required training is paid by the Child Care. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff in implementing a progressive Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum designed for children ages three months to four years old

  • Monitor and support the physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being of the children

  • Support each child's individual needs, interests, and growth as well as the collaborative, creative process of the group experience

  • Help maintain an organized, clean and aesthetically pleasing environment

  • Maintain vigilant attention to and resolve any safety concerns that arise from the facility or the children

  • Communicate effectively with families

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical developmental stages
  • Experience working with children aged three months to four years
  • Ability to work with children, parents and colleagues from diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences along with a commitment to equity and pluralism
  • Passion for learning and professional growth

Working Conditions:

  • Part of each day is spent outside.

Physical Requirements:

Position involves lifting, bending, squatting, reaching and pushing. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to get up and down to the floor numerous times throughout the day. Will need to be able to react quickly to certain situations.
