Job Description:

The Blake School seeks to hire an exceptional leader in physical education as PK-12 Physical Education and Wellness Department Chair for the 2023-24 school year. At Blake, we believe that physical education teaches students the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, self-expression and social collaboration. In addition, physical education and wellness instruction provides students with the skills, knowledge and habits of mind to lead and maintain a healthy life––physically and socio-emotionally––long beyond their years at Blake . The curriculum reflects an embedded wellness program, technology integration (including Seesaw in Lower School and heart rate monitoring in Middle School) and the ongoing opportunity to design learning experiences that allow students to develop global and intercultural competence.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in multiple divisions, deep emotional intelligence and a passion for sharing best practice pedagogy in the field. Department chairs teach classes in their discipline, work closely with division directors and report to the Associate Head of School. The PK-12 Department Chair also collaborates closely with the Director of Athletics. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes our community strong and empowers students to engage across differences.

The search committee will begin reviewing applications on Dec. 15.
