Job Description:

The Blake School is looking to hire a talented educator to provide string instruction to elementary age students and assist in the redesign of our Upper Elementary string curriculum to begin in the 2024-25 school year. This teaching artist will display exemplary musicianship, a familiarity with Suzuki, and demonstrated experience synthesizing multiple pedagogical approaches. The successful candidate will be part of the department of visual and performing arts, reporting directly to both the PK-12 director of visual and performing arts and the Lower School Division Director. This is a 1.0 FTE position on the Blake campus in Hopkins, Minnesota.

The search committee will begin reviewing resumes on April 2 and will continue to welcome applications. Blake will typically cover the travel and lodging costs for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.

Experience and Skills:

Responsibilities:

  • Teach violin, viola and cello weekly small group lessons
  • Direct fourth and fifth grade string ensembles
  • Organize and oversee lesson scheduling, ensembles coordination, recitals and concerts planning, and regular communication with parents
  • Help to redesign the Upper Elementary string curriculum
  • Participate in required faculty meetings, trainings and staffings

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching students in grades second through fifth in an upper elementary school setting
  • Experience with program design and curriculum development
  • BA/BM required, MM preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, colleagues, administrators and parents
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and interest in designing creative performance and capstone events
